Learn the basics of Eastern dance with Audrey Doherty

Audrey trained in Egyptian Balady dance and Arabic dance with tutor Anne White in London and has been dancing since 2000. She has also studied extensively with Arab teachers including Egpyptian Shafeek Ibrahim (London), Sara Farouk Ahmed based in Cairo, Algeran Amel Tafsout (USA), Cynthia Tabone (Australia) and Amani of Lebanon, whose dance troupe she has performed with. Audrey has spent time in Nice, France undertaking intensive study in ‘Oriental’ style dance and movement . She has studied many different Arabic dance styles from North Africa to the Khaleej (or the Gulf Region).

Audrey DohertyAudrey has performed publicly with various Arab bands who’s music styles were ‘Oriental’, Algerian Rai, Moroccan Shaabi and Moroccan Gnawa. She has also performed Gnawa trance dance for a music documentary for BBC Turkey, at South Bank Festival in London and also in two of London’s highest profile Arabic Music & Dance Showcases – Planet Egypt and Silk Route. Audrey has been on Planet Egypt event management team since 2005, a job that led to work for high profile Arab and Turkish musicians.

Her passion and love for this dance had progressed to professional performance prior to re-locating to the North of Ireland. Audrey is keen to share her knowledge with Inishowen ladies, introduce you to the ‘sisterhood’ and dispel any misconceptions about the ‘beautiful dance’.
